Hey Reader, Here’s a truth that’s easy to overlook: every moment presents a chance to make a decision. What we do, how we respond, where we direct our attention—it’s all within our control. Yet, so often, we feel stuck. Why? Because our brain resists what’s hard and uncomfortable, even when it knows that’s what’s best for us. Early in my career, I learned this the hard way. I was laid off twice during a struggling economy. It was easy to feel like a victim of circumstance. I told myself stories about how external forces dictated my worth and my future. But then, I stumbled upon a shift in perspective: instead of blaming what I couldn’t control, I began focusing on what I could. That simple mindset shift—taking ownership of my decision and choices—was transformative. I began saying, “What can I do right now, with what I have?” It led me to build a successful decade-long career in digital and tech and now empowering others to create impact and master their time, focus, and mental resilience. Now, let me share a few ideas to help you harness the power of your decisions in your own life: 1. Recognize Your Stuck PointsWe all have areas where we feel powerless. Maybe it’s work, relationships, or health. Pay attention to where you’re frequently frustrated or complaining. That’s a signal you’re resisting a decision that’s hard but necessary.
2. Make Hard Things EasierResistance often stems from fear or discomfort. The trick is to lower the friction between you and the task.
3. Shift Your StoryThe way we frame situations can either empower or paralyze us. Change your internal narrative.
4. Take Small, Consistent ActionsBig changes are just small decisions repeated over time. Don’t aim for perfect days; aim for progress.
5. Embrace AccountabilitySharing your intentions with someone you trust can reinforce your commitment to change.
Reframe Resistance as GrowthViktor Frankl wrote, “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our power to choose, and in our choice lies our growth and freedom.” It’s in these small, seemingly inconsequential moments that the big changes happen. When I stopped letting external circumstances define me and started making small, deliberate decisions in my life, I didn’t just change what I achieved—I changed who I became. What’s one decision you can make today to move closer to the life you want?
