Even though businesses and entrepreneurs all over the world are using Instagram to bring in new customers, clients
Considering that 80% of people follow a business or brand on Instagram, there are a lot of potential opportunities that you can tap into this powerful platform.
Using Instagram to Grow My Business
In this episode with Amadeus Frazier, who recently featured me as part of the London 100 web-series, to highlight London’s most innovative and creative companies and entrepreneurs, I talked about how I got started as an Instagram marketer, but also crucially, how I built my business with Instagram and social media.
Instagram for Business Tip #1 – Leverage The Latest Features on Instagram
It’s important to cultivate a testing and learning mentality because you want to make sure to make the most of the features that Instagram has to offer as a platform.
Instagram Stories, for example, is a great way to stay top-of-mind for your followers, even if your content isn’t always shown to them on Instagram. By being on Instagram Stories regularly, it will definitely help your account’s growth and engagement.
Another example is Instagram Shopping. Every month, 130 million fingers tap on Instagram Shopping posts and helping brands and businesses to make more sales on this platform with new customers. Now thanks to Instagram’s new checkout feature, people are able to buy products directly from Instagram without even leaving the app.
Instagram for Business Tip #2 – Use Live Video
By 2020, 79% of all internet search traffic will be video. Pretty incredible right? Well, same goes for Instagram. Live videos are such an engaging way to speak to your followers. The video is also bumped up in the Stories feed and your followers might also receive a notification when you do go live on Instagram.
It’s important to regularly use Instagram live videos to engage with your audience in a real and authentic way. With any social media platform, especially Instagram, people like to connect with people, so it’s much better to create connections with your audience on a regular basis so they get to know, like and trust your brand and business.

Instagram for Business Tip #3 – Ignore Vanity Metrics & Focus on Community
By embracing the mindset of building a thriving community, rather than chasing vanity metrics such as followers and likes, you are more likely to transform your following into fans and customers in the long term.
Gone are the days of airbrushed perfection and dreamy images on Instagram. People are interested in real and authentic content on Instagram now. When you can offer behind the scenes look or honest captions about your journey, your followers are much more likely to engage as they can relate to you. Authenticity is a big word, but at its core, it’s about being human.
